Even the most spiritually awakened people experience contrast in their lives. Contrast is any sort of unwanted experience. It’s usually, a negative situation or just flat out negative vibrational energy. Contrast is a part of life that is inescapable. We live in a Universe of duality. Ying and yang, male and female, night and day, black and white, good and evil. You get the point. If things were always wonderful, we wouldn’t have a true appreciation for the things that bring us joy. The challenge is to successfully strike the perfect balance between these two energies. This is what is known as living in alignment. I often speak about maintaining good vibrational energy and a positive outlook on life to attract the things that we desire. Today I want to talk about what it means when we experience contrast and how to deal with it.
In life we go through different phases. We may go through a period of years where we experience an overall feeling of joy and contentment. We seem to have the perfect career, family, home and friends. Overall, we’re generally happy. That’s not to say that we don’t have moments of contrast, but we are usually able to overcome them pretty quickly. Then there’s the opposite. The ying to the yang. Almost everyone I know has gone through periods in their lives when they were just feeling an overall void or unfulfilled. In some cases there’s a trigger, but oftentimes it’s just a general feeling of dissatisfaction that we really cannot intelligently identify the cause of. If we don’t understand what this contrast means and equip ourselves with the tools to assist us, the outcome could be detrimental. Oftentimes leading to long periods of depression and having to turn to medication.
Again, we must consciously realize that this is just a part of life. It just is. Knowing is half the battle. There’s no need to despair. I’m going to share a little secret with you that you may or may not know. Contrast is the Universe’s way of giving us a little nudge. The Universe is like a parent. It wants the best for all of mankind, its children. We are all growth-seeking beings by nature. So when we experience this contrast in our lives, it’s time to do a self-evaluation. When we become too comfortable, we can get stuck. Have you ever heard the phrase, the only thing constant is change? Most of us do not willingly seek change. So therefore when we are forced to change, it can be a drastic experience. But it really doesn’t have to be. Change can be difficult because there is always the element of the unknown. On some level, we may lose control of the outcome. But when we get this nudge from the Universe, it is telling us it is time for us to seek that change, before it seeks us. Like I stated previously, our nature is to seek growth. When we fail to grow on our own, we get a little nudge from the Universe telling us to get outside of our comfort zone.
The Universe is always conspiring on our behalf. When we can recognize what is at play, then we are better equipped to deal with. The first step is acceptance. Once we have accepted it and done our evaluation/self-assessment, we come away with some new information from introspection that we can use to benefit us. For example, that job that was perfect three years ago has now become a source of agony. The mere thought of returning there another day literally makes you feel ill. Well what happened? What changed? Usually not really much has changed but you. And that is ok. What used to serve you well before, no longer does. Instead of staying stuck in the same old rut, use this feeling of contrast to take action. Trust that things will always work out. Have a grateful attitude. Shift your energy from hating that job and use your creativity to think of new and exciting things you could be doing. Contrast is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to grow. Don’t waste it.
I wrote this article today for me as much as for anyone reading this. It doesn’t matter where you are on your spiritual path, we all need that reminder from time to time. When we all go through those times, it makes it much easier if we look at it as an opportunity and realize that it is the Universe’s way of guiding us to better things. A friend once recommended a book that she was reading to me. The title is, “A Setback is a Setup for a Comeback”. I never did get around to reading that book. But the title alone is so profound that I have never forgotten it. Just the phrase alone reminds me that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. So whatever contrast you may be going through in your life right now, just remember that this is a gift. Use this gift to your advantage. Something better is always waiting for you. So refocus, shift your energy and use this experience to create something better.

That’s a really beautiful post. I always try to see setbacks or negative situations as catalysts set up by our higher selves which nudge us into self-development and initiating the movement toward greater unity.

Yes Mike, that is exactly what it is. We just need to remind ourselves when we are going through these experiences to help us gain perspective, seize the moment and create something even better. Thanks for stopping by.

You said: “The Universe is always conspiring on our behalf….”
I think the universe will 50% conspire on our behalf –
and the other 50% against our behalf…

Yes Lisa, we were born into a world of paradoxs, dualities, contrasts, etc.. I sincerely commend you for sharing the secret and not making it ‘a secret’ any more
For the truth of the universe lives but many have made it ‘a secret’, or distorted the message. I think I am human learning to think spiritual; perhaps remembering who I truly am, and what my purpose is. Yet I have human reactions, initially, to human experiences. I believe that destiny moves and we must seize it, grasp it, capture it; it can be fleeting. The sharing of your journey serves as a beacon for others. Lead on, I am humble enough to listen and follow.

I definitely believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Unfortunately, our lives have become so efficiency oriented that the last thing that people tend to think about is their spiritual selves. Stress and tension has become such an innate feeling in us that when we don’t feel it as we become more spiritual, we miss it. I can say this from my own personal experience, the more spiritual Ive become the less anxiety I feel. This has actually led me to doubt my own drive and dedication. Its as if I basically connected stress and anxiety with being a useful human being. The more I meditate, the more I learn about myself and the more my energy levels increase. I am now in the process of meditating for grounding to find out exactly what I should do with all this new found knowledge and energy. Great site and thank you for the post.
