Be The Change You Want To See In The World

gandhiThe title of this post is a famous quote from the great spiritual leader, Mahatma Ghandi.  And the mission and goal of this post today is to provide each and every person that reads the words here today the opportunity to do just that.  Today’s post is a call to action for all who are reading this.  Before I share with you exactly what it is I would like you to do, I would like to share a few things. As many of my readers know, I am very passionate about everyone living their best lives.  In doing so, I also want to highlight that a part of doing so entails doing it in ways that benefits the greatest good of everyone on this planet. Through our individual actions, we all have an impact on the collective soul of the Universe.  Change starts with us.  Often times we become so wrapped up in our own troubles that we forget the struggles of our neighbors, family, friends and people around the globe.  We sit in our living rooms and watch the horrific events being reported going on right in our own backyards, disgusted, but feeling powerless.  We are not powerless.  Just one person can make a difference.  We are, in fact, “Our Brother’s Keeper”.  We are part of One Universal Mind and consciousness.  We are all connected.  That is why we feel saddened when we hear of tragedies suffered by our brothers and sisters of this world. Today I want everyone to think about giving something back.  The task is really simple and will only take a few minutes of your time.  That few minutes you take has the potential to save thousand of lives. Ok, so I’m sure everyone is wondering, “why are we here?”  We’re here today to make a difference.  We’re here to be the change we want to see in the world.  I recently saw the previews of an Oprah show where the topic of discussion was how to keep your childrens safe from online predators.  Being the mother of a young girl, it was very important to me that my daughter and I watched this show together.  The show was very disturbing to watch, but it gave me the opportunity to continue my ongoing dialogue of the topic of Internet safety with my daughter.  The stories that were shared were truly heartbreaking.  And I, as a mother, felt that it was important for me to do something while I still had a child to be thankful for.  I want to use this platform to help others, but at the same time, I hope that the ones being helped will help others in turn.  It’s all about giving back and living a positive life.  The show that I watched aired on Wednesday, 14 April 09.  You can catch it on ABC or on Oprah’s website.  Many of us are familiar with the very sad story of a young boy named Adam Walsh.  Adam was kidnapped from a mall in Hollywood, Florida 27 years ago at the age of 6.  I grew up not far from there and was a young child myself at the time, so this was something that really impacted me.   This family turned their personal pain and tragedy into a crusade to help save other children from the same fate.  Since Adam’s death, his father, John Walsh has been an advocate for catching criminals.  Through his tremendous dedication and efforts, thousands of lives have been saved and hundreds of criminals put away.  If one man can do this, what can each of us do to support this cause?   Simple. Read the information below taken from Oprah’s website.

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act was passed on July 25, 2006—20 years after Adam Walsh’s abduction. The act established a National Sex Offender Registry law, but recent news reports reveal most states will not be in compliance with the law by the upcoming July 2009 deadline. If senators and state representatives don’t comply with and fully fund the act, it will expire.

Act Now!

It’s time to bail out our kids. Make your voice heard by imploring your senators and state representatives to comply with Adam’s law and give it full funding. “

Simply copy and paste letter written by Oprah’s staff and email it to your lawmakers at House.gov or Senate.gov.

Dear [Senator/Congressman/or Congresswoman]:

I am sure you share my belief that we must do everything in our power to help protect our children from sexual predators in our communities. That is why I am asking for your help today.

I am extremely concerned about how we track registered sex offenders in our country. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, an estimated 100,000 sex offenders are unaccounted for and not living where they are registered. Because law enforcement agencies are too underfunded and overwhelmed to track them, these dangerous predators are free to roam undetected from state to state, targeting and re-offending more innocent children.
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, which was signed into law in 2006, created a National Sex Offender Registry, but recent news reports reveal most states will not be in compliance with the law by the upcoming July deadline. Supporters of the law acknowledge there are adjustments that should be made to the law, but they are adamant, as am I, that the basic purpose and spirit of Adam’s act must be upheld. The act calls for a National Sex Offender Registry,
which is critical to the safety of our children.

I implore you to reexamine this law with fellow lawmakers, reauthorize it and see that it is fully funded. I realize our country’s current economic crisis will not make this charge an easy one, but what could be more urgent and of greater importance than the safety and well-being of our children?

Sincerely,
(your name here)

That’s it.  That’s all you have to do.  Just copy, paste and hit send.  Think about how many lives can be saved through this one action that you take.  Our children are the future of this planet. One day this Universe will exist with a world full of enlightened beings.  They’re the greatest asset to our planet and deserve our efforts to protect them.

This is my call to action to everyone reading this to do something NOW to affect a positive change.  I encourage all other bloggers, irrespective of your blog platform to follow suit and do the same.  Get the word out to as many people as you can.  Time is of the essence.  Please leave a comment after you’ve sent the letter in the comments area, so we can keep a record of the contribution to change.  I will follow the progress of The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act and report the outcome right here.  Thanks for your support.  You can be the change.

In Light and Love,

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Hi Lisa, a great post. The quote by Ghandi is what I believe should be the cornerstone of the law of attraction. The reason that so many people are struggling to manifest their desires is precisely because this fundamental truth is omitted. It’s all about quick fixes and techniques which don’t give you any lasting value. Trying to think positive thoughts and trying feeling good will give you fleeting occasional manifestations. Perhaps a $100 here and maybe a $5,000 there. But if you really want to live the lifestyle of an Oprah Winfrey or Tony Robbins and be your best and highest self, then you have to change (be totally transformed) which is the change that Ghandi is talking about.

Right now, its like you’re trying to attract oranges while you’re an apple tree. If you want to produce oranges you have to become an orange tree, simple as that. Techniques or “feeling good” cannot transform you into something you’re not. The law of attraction is defined as “like attracts like” or “That which is like unto itself is drawn.” So, whatever you want, become it, and you’ll have it.

    So long… lets talk soon.
    Jimmy
