However, I like how you point out that the faults we find in our partner are likely the faults we find with ourselves. I had to spend some time thinking about it, and although not exactly the same, the irritation comes from the same place. For example, I get really annoyed because my husband leaves crumbs all over the kitchen counters. I don’t leave crumbs, but I am definitely dissatisfied with my ability to keep things clean and neat. The irritation I feel towards him comes from my own struggle to be better in this area.

That might seem like a silly example, but it helps me to make sense of it.
