The title of this post is a famous quote from the great spiritual leader, Mahatma Ghandi. And the mission and goal of this post today is to provide each and every person that reads the words here today the opportunity to do just that. Today’s post is a call to action for all who are reading this. Before I share with you exactly what it is I would like you to do, I would like to share a few things. As many of my readers know, I am very passionate about everyone living their best lives. In doing so, I also want to highlight that a part of doing so entails doing it in ways that benefits the greatest good of everyone on this planet. Through our individual actions, we all have an impact on the collective soul of the Universe. Change starts with us. Often times we become so wrapped up in our own troubles that we forget the struggles of our neighbors, family, friends and people around the globe. We sit in our living rooms and watch the horrific events being reported going on right in our own backyards, disgusted, but feeling powerless. We are not powerless. Just one person can make a difference. We are, in fact, “Our Brother’s Keeper”. We are part of One Universal Mind and consciousness. We are all connected. That is why we feel saddened when we hear of tragedies suffered by our brothers and sisters of this world. Today I want everyone to think about giving something back. The task is really simple and will only take a few minutes of your time. That few minutes you take has the potential to save thousand of lives. Ok, so I’m sure everyone is wondering, “why are we here?” We’re here today to make a difference. We’re here to be the change we want to see in the world. I recently saw the previews of an Oprah show where the topic of discussion was how to keep your childrens safe from online predators. Being the mother of a young girl, it was very important to me that my daughter and I watched this show together. The show was very disturbing to watch, but it gave me the opportunity to continue my ongoing dialogue of the topic of Internet safety with my daughter. The stories that were shared were truly heartbreaking. And I, as a mother, felt that it was important for me to do something while I still had a child to be thankful for. I want to use this platform to help others, but at the same time, I hope that the ones being helped will help others in turn. It’s all about giving back and living a positive life. The show that I watched aired on Wednesday, 14 April 09. You can catch it on ABC or on Oprah’s website. Many of us are familiar with the very sad story of a young boy named Adam Walsh. Adam was kidnapped from a mall in Hollywood, Florida 27 years ago at the age of 6. I grew up not far from there and was a young child myself at the time, so this was something that really impacted me. This family turned their personal pain and tragedy into a crusade to help save other children from the same fate. Since Adam’s death, his father, John Walsh has been an advocate for catching criminals. Through his tremendous dedication and efforts, thousands of lives have been saved and hundreds of criminals put away. If one man can do this, what can each of us do to support this cause? Simple.
